About the Madal:

The Madal (Nepali: मादल) is primarily used for maintaining rhythm in Nepalese folk music. It is the most popular hand drum in Nepal and is widely utilized by Nepalese and cultural folk musicians worldwide, including countries such as the United States, Australia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Spain, South Korea, Cyprus, Mexico, Portugal, England, Norway, and Russia. The Madal holds significance in various Nepalese festivals like Holi, Dashain, Tihar, Maghe Sakranti, Shivratri, Krishna Janmastami, Teej, as well as local gatherings such as picnics, weddings, and farewell events.

This traditional Nepalese percussion instrument features a cylindrical body with a slight bulge at its center and heads at both ends; one head is larger than the other. Typically played horizontally in a seated position, both heads are struck simultaneously.
